THE DESIGN BRIEF
We invite entries from Engineers, Designers, Sculptors and 3D Artists.
Art in Structure aims to showcase the creative abilities that are alive and well both within our industry and beyond.
Entrants are invited to respond with a design that expresses a personal interpretation, in metals, of the “Urban Garden”, as it seeks to break through the tension of concrete and noise, so very much part of the inner-city landscape, bringing therapeutic flora personalities to life. How can the medium of metal enhance the modern day urban garden setting, work in synergy with modern lifestyles and become fluid expressions of organic forms in nature?
The 3D concept renders need to be capable of being fabricated to a finished product. If selected as one of the eight finalists you will be required to fabricate your design from material primarily available from any of Fletcher Steel's companies stock within New Zealand.
We are looking for innovative works with minimum scale constraints of 1500mm H x 700mm x 700mm, and maximum scale constraints of 2500mm H x 1100mm x 1100mm.
The fabricated sculptures will need to be self-supporting and stand without any in-ground anchors. Above ground bracing/support, e.g. a weighted base will be acceptable but must comply with the overall dimension requirements. If required, transport and installation of the fabricated pieces to the venue will be organised Fletcher Steel.
Entries open on March 19th and will be accepted up until 5 pm on Friday 17th of August. Your entry must consist of both 3D renders and working drawings sufficient to completely and accurately describe all aspects of the piece - this is to ensure the integrity of your design meets the design specification.
The finalists will be announced on September 1st, and fabricated sculptures will need to be completed by 20 November.
*Fletcher Steel will set the sale price of each sculpture in the emerging category. In the professional category, the price will be set in conjunction with the artist.
