Submit your entry

Throw off the confines of gravity and submit us a render of your metal sculpture design. Entries will be fully rendered by the Fletcher Building Innovations Lab and features in the gallery of entries.

Finalists will see their sculptures featured in our virtual sculpture park at verious locations around New Zealand in early 2016.
Which category are you entering?
Companies actively working in

Design and 3D Modelling can be in most 3D software, such as Blender, Rhino, 3D Studio Max, Maya, or in Solid Modelling software such as Inventor, Solid Works. Please export 3D models as “.obj” with associated textures in a “maps” folder and deliver all assets in a single .zip file. If you have several materials present, such as; Stainless steel, Aluminium, Raw metal. Please name them accordingly in your scene for appropriate metal shaders, etc. to be applied based on material property. If you are using texture maps to create a visual effect then make sure to provide the texture (jpg or png) in the maps folder.

.OBJ is a common 3D file format that is robust with minimal geometry loss in the conversion process. The model will retain UV coordinates and object normal so it’s displayed correctly in augmented reality. (All smart or parametric values of the 3d model will be removed). 200,000 max polys suggested (however, platform can support as many as 1,000,000 on higher end devices)” Although the initial display of the submissions will be of a “virtual” nature, the goal for the winning designs is that these will be fabricated as per the original design. The designs should therefore to be subject to the normal gravitational and physical rules of working with metals.

The ideal assembled size of each piece should be within 1.5m long x 1.5m wide x 2.4m high – however we don’t wish to put any constraints on creativity and entries can be scaled accordingly should they be selected to be rendered for the virtual sculpture park. The Promoter reserves the right to scale the dimensions of a winning submission to the extent reasonably required for fabrication.
